Photographic/Collage type

A quick search shows the style of type which I aim to create...

Lisa Rienemann

Already posted this in first year, but it is the style of type which I want to create fore Brief 02, in terms of a photographic approach.

Windows. Architectural details.

This book will form the content of Brief 02. Instead of basing my window content on different cities in the UK, or on different styles, I am going to do different cities around the world taken from this book.

Here are some examples of the imagery in this book and which will form my typefaces . I will created each typeface for each issue of my booklet from the details found in this book and creat them in a photographic collage way. Similar to Lisa Rienermann.

n9ve

Just found this and it is beautiful! I really like the handmade feel to it, even though it is all digital and this is something I love in my own work. I like this style of design for the Architecture brief.

VNA Magazine

"Very Nearly Almost is a UK-based independent quarterly magazine that documents the street art and graffiti scene. Launched in 2006, VNA tracks everything that’s going on in the scene from the wheatpastes, paint and stencils out there on the streets through to gallery shows and events that bring together graff artists from around the world.

VNA is also involved in a number of events in the UK and elsewhere, including curating the live art show at London’s street culture festival Streetfest and a presence at the globetrotting art battle events organised by Secret Wars."

Is Not Magazine

Brilliant idea for communal reading and a demonstration of how I could move a magazine into a new light. Also on a large scale, shows me how I could design something for use in the environment.

"Is Not Magazine is a magazine in the form of a 1.5m x 2m bill poster. Is Not is independently published, carries no advertisements and is, among other things, an experiment in publishing real content where people expect to find advertising. It’s a design challenge and a reading experiment; a paper saving device; a bastion of editorial complexity and a grey area for the discerning communal reader. It uses the city as a canvas and brings reading to life. Approach it from any angle; bend down curiously; lean in for a closer look; embark on a treasure hunt to find a story that ends in another location."

Typeradio

Whaaaat...? This is relevant to everything that I do as it is all type based.

"Typeradio. Now we are talking. Typeradio, the radio channel on type & design. Type is speech on paper. Typeradio is speech on type. Typeradio is a Microfm broadcast, a MP3 internet radio stream and a podcast station. Since 2004 Typeradio (which is Donald Beekman, Liza Enebeis aka LoveLiza & Underware) is visiting different design events around the world, to meet designers and to talk."

I think this is amazing, I have selected loads of these podcasts and downloaded them. I hope to listen to them while in the studio and make notes where appropriate.

4theform

Demonstrating both a great way of showcasing a typeface and also how a typeface can be the identity for a publication.

"The book which consist of all the creative process of the creation of the typeface "Hevea". From surface research to more in depth research of the chosen location ‘Causeway Point’. From basic type idea and various in-depth explorations of letterforms to make a functional & legible typeface."

Studio Makgill

This studio feeds into 2 of my projects, brief 02 and brief 03. This post is in realtion to brief 02. Demonstrating how one idea can work across a range to produce a suitable identity.

Andres Requena

Great examples of using limited colours effectively. I am keen on using 2 colours for the promotion of my font in Brief 01. The red is too bold for me to use it as a background, however the green is paler and so my font in a contrasting colour over the top would work better. I need to use a colour to stand out as I want my promotional products to show off the font to its full potential.

This post also demonstrates how effectively a range can work. 2 different editions of a similar publication such as different issues. I especially like how the layout is the same, but the content and colours used are different. The identity is formed out of layout and not specific colours.
